Why it's Wildland
3.1A canal-era crossing with a layered story: Tividale Aqueduct carries the Old Main Line over the Netherton Tunnel branch, linking waterways built in different phases of Birmingham’s canal network.
This is a compact industrial-heritage stop rather than a wild landscape: its appeal lies in a surviving aqueduct and the visible meeting of two canal routes. Historic England records it as a Grade II listed structure, but access and a visitor route have not been verified.

Verified history
Historic England identifies Tividale Aqueduct as a Grade II listed building, first listed on 29 September 1987. The listing dates the aqueduct to the 1890s and describes brick construction with sandstone keystones, two shallow segmental arches and a parapet. It carries James Brindley’s Old Main Line, dated in the entry to 1769, over the Netherton Tunnel branch. The listing says the tunnel was built in 1858 to improve communications between the Dudley and Birmingham canals. A narrower arch on the eastern canal bank is now blocked and contains a doorway. The north-side plaque is transcribed as “Rebuilt 189-”, with the final digit not specified in the listing.
Hidden details
A blocked arch and doorway — The Historic England entry notes a narrower arch adjoining the eastern canal bank, now blocked and containing a doorway. This is a detail to look for only if visible from a lawful viewpoint; access is unverified.
