Why it's Wildland
5.1A small urban woodland and meadow occupies land that was farmland until north London’s railway-era expansion. In the Second World War, a V1 flying bomb destroyed seven Victorian houses on Granville Road; prefabs later stood on the site before it became open land.
This is a modest neighbourhood green rather than a destination-scale wild place. Its value lies in the contrast packed into 0.3 hectares: spring flowers beneath hazel and sycamore, a small meadow, bog plants and a striking wartime change of landscape.

Verified history
The site was farmland until the 1870s, when the railway came to north London and the farmland was built on. During the Second World War, a V1 flying bomb destroyed seven Victorian houses on Granville Road. Prefabs replaced them and were removed in 1980; the area was subsequently left as open land. The supplied evidence does not identify surviving physical traces of the houses, bomb damage or prefabs within the Spinney.
Hidden details
A small boggy habitat — The Spinney includes a small boggy area where Haringey Council notes yellow iris and meadowsweet—a distinct habitat within this compact urban green.
A changed landscape — The present open land follows a sequence of farmland, Victorian housing, wartime destruction and prefabs removed in 1980. The source does not establish which earlier structures, if any, remain visible on site.
