Why it's Wildland
7.2A Tudor mansion on the site of a medieval abbey, remodelled by Robert Adam in the 1760s and set within parkland shaped by Capability Brown.
Syon is more than a grand house: its Robert Adam interiors, domed Great Conservatory and designed parkland bring architectural history and landscape together. It merits a visit for that combination, though access and opening arrangements should be checked in advance.

Verified history
Syon House stands on the site of a late medieval abbey. Historic Houses says the former monastic site passed to the Percy family at the end of the 16th century. The Tudor mansion was remodelled for the 1st Duke of Northumberland by Robert Adam in the 1760s. The estate also includes a domed Great Conservatory designed by Charles Fowler in the 1820s and parkland associated with Capability Brown.
Hidden details
The house’s layered beginnings — The mansion occupies the site of a late medieval abbey; the estate’s story therefore reaches further back than the Tudor house visitors see today.
Look up in the Great Conservatory — Notice the conservatory’s domed design, attributed to Charles Fowler and dated to the 1820s.
