Why it's Wildland
3.6A compact, tree-lined garden in a Victorian London square, with mixed shrubberies and a small playground. Its quieter appeal lies in the contrast between a leafy pause and the surrounding city streets.
Redcliffe Square Gardens offers a modest but welcome pocket of greenery in Earl’s Court: mature trees, mixed planting and a place to pause, with a small play area for children. It is best understood as a neighbourhood garden, not a destination for a long nature outing.

Verified history
Redcliffe Square was built as part of the Gunter estate in the 1860s, when the area changed from mostly farmland to a developed neighbourhood. Robert Gunter initiated much of the estate’s development; surveyor George Godwin and his brother Henry were responsible for much of its design. The council says the name Redcliffe was chosen because of Godwin’s connections with Bristol. Redcliffe Gardens follows an older route known as Walnut Tree Walk. In 1949 the square was given to the borough on condition that its character be maintained.
